Frequently Asked QuestionsCommon to all packages
Q: What is the value of the service to SAP?A: The RDS for Data Migration for SAP is designed to demonstrate the potential of SAP’s Data Migration products and Best Practice Content. This can lead to additional opportunities with the customer in terms of:•License sales•Consultancy revenue•Additional RDS sales
Q: There is only a few days of project management assigned to this RDS, who is responsible for day-to-day project management activities?A: As the majority of the work is undertaken by the SAP Data Migration Consultant they would be expected to assume the day-to-day project management activities, reporting to the part-time project manager.
Q: The delivery timescale is very tight for such a project, how do I ensure it is delivered on time?A: The project kick-off meeting is there to ensure all parties understand what they need to deliver and when. This is a good time to re-affirm the importance of meeting deadlines given the short timescales.

Frequently Asked QuestionsRelated to ERP
Q: Why does the customer need to decide on their migration objects so far in advance of the project start?A: The objects to be migrated need to be decided early to enable resource teams to assign the correct SAP Functional Consultant to the project.
Q: What constitutes a “medium complexity” Data Migration object?A: There is no definitive answer to this, however it is important control customer expectation during the kick-off meeting to ensure what is agreed can be delivered within the allocated timescale.Limiting the number of attributes migrated for an object will still demonstrate the capability.
A possible example object selection might be: Vendor Master and open Purchase Orders & Customer Master and open Sales Orders & Bank
Q: Why are the data volumes limited?A: The limitation is there as a guide to control the duration of the migration and demo test runs. If volumes exceed this, the source data can be filtered and this will still demonstrate the capability.

Tips & Tricks Ensure a broad selection of stakeholders, from senior management to end
users, executive sponsors (SAP & customer) to various team leads and members.
Ensure a well prepared, agreed and bought-in interview agenda, so attendees are available in time and agree to the review topics.
Conduct separate interview sessions with team leads, team members, customer and SAP project managers, stakeholders and business process owners; ideally 1 or 2 persons per session.
Focus on values delivered by this project: are customer expectations understood by the entire project team and properly transformed into a solution?
Actively listen to your interview partners. Avoid extensive discussions about solutions that may consume valuable time of your tightly scheduled interviews.
Join the team for lunch or dinner, more important information about the project may be available only outside the project premises, on a more informal basis.
Act independently and unbiased when evaluating risks and issues. Being external to the project is your key advantage and induces trust.
Follow your intuition and experience; don’t stick too close to the review guidelines and content in PMR Tool, use built-in questions as “door opener” only, to get better access to the real critical topics.
The pure presence of project documents does not give much information about the project status; the absence of project documents says so much more.
