“ENTERPRISE”
A business that has buildings where employees, contractors and guests work together to accomplish business goals. They have an IT staff that supports the business users, and makes decisions on their behalf.
This is opposite of a venue where majority of people in venue at any given time have no relationship to venue owner.

Why Enterprise Small Cells? 80% of Usage is Indoors
– Shift services indoors near consumer
Energy Efficient Glass and Building Materials– Outside to Indoor signal delivery blocked – Indoor signal delivery solves the problem
Densification– Many small cell radios densely installed “like Wi-Fi”– Provides high capacity to position for future
– Macro-offload

Macro Network Offload Effects
Implementation offloads 45% of Users from Macro Network
RRC Connected Users Average– BC 4 RRC Connected Users Average
dropped about 45% after E-RAN enabled
– BLUE = BC 4 (1700 Mhz)
• Note: BC 4 is preferred on macro
– RED = BC 13 (700 Mhz)

Increased Average Data Rate on Macro
Downlink Throughput
– BC 4 DL dropped about 16% after E-RAN enabled
– BLUE = BC 4 (1700 Mhz)
• Note: BC 4 is preferred on macro
– RED = BC 13 (700 Mhz)
Downlink Usage
– RRC Connected Users dropped by 45% but DL Throughput dropped by only 16%
– Conclusion: Less users consuming more bandwidth means better user experience

Situation
Enterprise hotspots vs. Freeway commuters Consider: use E-RAN to offload macro capacity Goal: defer macro upgrades by making smaller investments in E-RAN

Move Towards Wireless as a Utility
Electricity Water
So… Cellular Signal– 35 dB loss glass
– Responsibility culture shift
– Building owner or tenant improves?
– Co-channel, unlicensed or both?
