Fast Changing!!
I'm 9 months late is starting my research (Life got in the way) – And a good thing!!
Massive improvements in software and equipment in the last year – to my great advantage!
Remote Sensing in the North
Yukon's Mapping needs generally meet by: Traditional aerial photography:
• Expensive.• Companies based in south.• Lots of planning.
High Resolution Satellites:• Very short season.• Weather dependent• Geometry not often optimal.
Neither solution offers a quick response. North is essentially handicapped by lack of mapping.
Mapping Applications
General small area mapping: up to 10km2. Road Corridor Mapping. Emergency Response: flood, fire, avalanche, etc. Permafrost Landscape Monitoring. Abandoned Mine site monitoring. Geophysical surveying. Archeological Site Mapping. Habitat Mapping. Glacial Monitoring. Vegetation Mapping (Species level).
Mapping
Stereo Pairs. DEMs and DSMs. Orthomosaics.

Fixed Wing Mapping
Area Coverage Typical 120m, 5cm GSD = 1.5 km2 280m, 10cm GSD = 4 km2 840m, 30cm GSD = 10 km2
Orthomosaic Accuracy Relative Accuracy 10cm, 3-5m absolute With Gcps: Absolute Accuracy → centimeters

10 cm GSD Riverdale Example
2.5 km2, Nex 5, 19mm lens, 87 photos, 400m AGL
25 cm GSD Riverdale Example
2.5 km2, Nex 5, 19mm lens, 11 photos, 900m AGL
25 cm GSD Whitehorse Example
100 km2, d800, 35mm lens, 148 photos, 3000m AGL, 98 km Flight
The LAWUAV Special Flight Operations Certificate From TC“Your Enquiry has been received by the P&NR Special Flight Operations inbox
and is in the queue. It will be processed in turn as resources permit. The current processing times are averaging 2 -3 months.
Thank You.”

Where are Drones Going?
Better Autopilots – Smarter. Better Lipo Batteries. Better Electric Motors. Better, lighter Cameras. Better Airplanes. Societal Acceptance of Commercial Drones? Innovation with Drones is exploding! Sky is the limit!
Mapping Drones in the Yukon
Aerial Imaging and Mapping Services. Keep business (money) in the Yukon. Yukon is starving for better and faster mapping. Tool for field scientists. Potential for Innovation: Unique northern needs.
Future Dreams
Very high altitude drone for regional mapping and monitoring. A Poor-Man's Solara??
