Fashion in 1900’s

• At the beginning of the 1900’s, women were not allowed to show their legs because the Queen thought it was rude. Dresses were full length and the upper classes often wore dresses of silk.

Fashion in 1910’s

• Women did not have to make their own clothes. Families bought their clothes from the rack meaning rails and bars people hang their clothes on. The dresses of the upper classes were altered or made by seamstresses after the material, design and trimmings were decided upon.

1920s fashion

• The dresses in the 1920s were cut shorter. It was thought to be vary daring to show your ankles. The dresses were simpler in design using less material. Straight dresses with a dropped waist were the height of fashion.

Fashion in the 1930’s

• Women's massive shoulder pads and tiny waists were a terrible combination from the 1930's. Mid calf skirts were quite popular as well.

Fashion in the 1940’s.

• The design of the clothes were shorter caused by the war and by practicality as women were now working. Skirts were knee length. Jackets were short, finishing at the waist and ¾ length sleeves were in. For the first time it was acceptable for women to wear trousers especially in the work place.

Fashion in the 1950’s

• Contempary music was becoming the new thing. Skirts were fuller and swung out when dancing. Blouses with little collars were worn too.

Fashion in the 1960’s

• Mini skirts, bright colours with bold designs were in. Straight dresses with little shape were worn to show off skinny models like Twiggy.

Fashion in the 1970’s

• In the 1970 bell bottoms were really popular also hip huggers were in. Platform boots were also in.

Fashion in the 1980’s

• Mini skirts were popular the shorter the better. Leg warmers were in in the 80s as well.
