William R. Hamilton Born: August 4th 1805 Died: September 2nd 1865(age 60) From Dublin Irish Physicist, Astronomer, & Mathematician

Life William Hamilton's scientific career included the

study of geometrical optics, classical mechanics, adaptation of dynamic methods in optical systems.

Mathematical Studies Hamilton contributed to the development of

optics, dynamics, and algebra. In particular, discovering the algebra of quaternions.

Quaternions: Generalization of two-dimensional complex numbers to three dimensions.

His work proved significant for the development of quantum mechanics.

Sir William Rowan Hamilton

Brook Taylor Born: august 18th 1685 Died: December 29th 1731 Lived in England British Known for: Taylor's theorem, and stories

Life In Taylor's youth, he was educated by a private tutor. His father also would encourage the young Taylor to

pursue a talent for poetry and music, the latter of which Taylor applied his mathematical knowledge to in later years.

Mathematical Studies Developed Calculus Branch o mathematics concerned with the

calculation of instantaneous rates of change and the summation of infinitely many small factors to determine some whole.
