Who• was the first famous British

queen? She fought against the Roman emperor, Claudius, who wanted to be emperor of all Britain. Unfortunately, the Romans were too strong and the British couldn’t defeat them. You can see her, a big, tall, beautiful woman, in Hyde Park Corner, in the middle of London.

Who• was the Saxon King of Wessex,

won a great battle against the Danes in 878, and forced them to agree to peace. Much of Britain was divided into Danish land (the Danelaw) and Anglo-Saxon Land (England). He was the king for 28 years. In his time, English people made a lot of new schools, began to write the first books in English.

• invaded England from Normandy, defeated King Harold at the Battle of Hastings after that he had a nickname the Conqueror.
