PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Welcome to the first issue of the Falcon Flyer.
We will be publishing this newsletter quarterly. We hope to fill it with information that will answer questions, inform, and brag a little about the great things happening at DNMS on a regular basis.
Each issue will feature a short greeting from me, feature one of our clubs, list some of the upcoming events that may interest you, and share information from our Nurse, Social Worker, and Counselors.
We will keep using our Twitter and Facebook accounts for real time announcements. If you do not have an account with either of those Social Media outlets, you can click on their icons on our website and see what we have been sharing. The Daily Announcements that are shared with your student are pinned daily at the top of our Facebook page.
If there is information that you would like to hear more about in any of our forums, please feel free to reach out and let us know.
Go Falcons!

Mental Health Services at DNMS
Student Support Services has small social skills groups and support groups (divorce, grief/loss, organizational skills, etc) throughout the year. If you feel like your child could benefit, please contact Ragan Snyder-Smith, school social worker, rsnydersmith@usd260.com or Jane Gaulding, Pando Initiative Student Support Advocate, at kdroegemeier@usd260.com. Either can be reached at 316-788-8408.
We will also have a school-based therapist from the Mental Health Association this year. This is a licensed mental health professional who would meet with your child at school. It would be like an outpatient therapy appointment and be billed through your private insurance. If you are interested in more information, please contact Ragan Snyder-Smith, school social worker, at 316-788-8408 or rsnydersmith@usd260.com.
Mental Health Association also has a grant to help Derby residents pay for outpatient substance abuse treatment. You do not have to be related to a student, but have to live in the Derby area. If you are interested in more information, please contact Ragan Snyder-Smith, school social worker, at 316-788-8408 or rsnydersmith@usd260.com.
McConnell Air Force Base has partnered with USD 260 to have a Military Family Life Counselor at Derby North on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. We are excited to have Ms. Charmin Bell at DNMS this year. If your family is active duty military and would like more information, please email her at: clbell9@magellanhealth.com. She can support your child through deployments and other stresses that military families face.
The Girls on the Run 5K Race will take place on Sunday, November 11 at 2 p.m. at Watson Park in Wichita. If you are interested in participating in the 5K, you can register online at www.girlsontherunks.org. You may also come to watch and show your support for our DNMS Girls on the Run team.

DRAMA NEWS
The dramatic arts is one of the best ways a student can learn to express themselves, develop poise in front of people and participate in teamwork. In August over 50 students in grades 6-8 auditioned for the DNMS fall play, "Dr. Evil and the Basket of Kittens." The Production will showcase 20 young actors and actresses. In addition, the backstage crew is learning the art of costuming and technical support. The show, under the direction of Kara Lazarus and Becky Hilt, features and evil scientist who is preparing to take over the world until his plan is thwarted by an innocent basket of kittens left on the doorstep.
Dillon's Community Rewards program donates funds to non-profit organizations. This does not cost you anything and has no effect on your fuel points. Anyone with a Rewards Card can sign up so anyone you know can donate through this program.
We use the money to support our school clubs and activities that are not supported by the district.
Thank you for supporting our clubs and activities. If you have any questions please contact Jeff Smith, the building principal.
Here are the instructions to get started on the Community Rewards Program:
- Go to www.dillons.com/communityrewards- Sign in to your online account, or create a new one if you do not have one.- Scroll down to the bottom of the page to Community Rewards.- Find and select our organization using one of these search criteria.
