“British industry has changed substantially since the introduction of the Health and Safety at Work Act (HSWA) in 1974 and data shows there have been large reductions in work-related injury and (since 1990) the overall scale of ill health.”

Between 1974 – 2015:

Fatal injuries to employees fallen from 651 to 92 (86%)

Non fatal injuries fallen by 77%

Defining facilities management?

“Facilities management is the integration of processes within an organisation to maintain and develop the agreed services which support and improve the effectiveness of its primary activities”. Facilities management encompasses multi-disciplinary activities within the built environment and the management of their impact upon people and the workplace.

At a corporate level, it contributes to the delivery of strategic and operational objectives. On a day-to day level, effective facilities management provides a safe and efficient working environment, which is essential to the performance of any business – whatever its size and scope

The outsourcing of everyday activities required for businesses to function has led to the growth of a £11.9bn Facilities Management (“FM”) market in the UK in 2016.

According to IBIS, the market is expected to grow by 3.2% Compound Annual Growth Rate over the next five years to reach a value of £13.9bn in 2021
