• College can be expensive, but worth the cost• Costs vary by type of college• Look at costs over your student’s entire

postsecondary education.– 4 to 6 years (or more)

• More than just tuition– Also includes room and board, books,

transportation, etc.

If you go to another website, you’ll get to complete the application, but you’ll be paying $$ for a FREE application!!

This is the date that the FAFSA will be available for the 2013-14 academic year that begins in

August of 2013.

• Have you filed your tax return?• Have you gotten your PIN’s?• Do you know whose information you’ll be

using?

• Grants (PELL and FSEOG)• Student Loans• Parent Loans• Federal Work

You will use your 2012 tax returns• Make it a priority to file early!!

• Data link is available starting February 3rd, 2013• To use this option you must have filed

electronically at least 3 weeks prior to completing the FAFSA, or 6 weeks if you filed a paper tax return.

WRONG!!

What you can expect to happen when you are done…

• You will receive an ESTIMATE from the Federal Processor when you submit the form online.

• Your school(s) will contact you once they have received your information. Make sure you know how to expect that communication from them!

• You might be required to turn in more documents• Total time from the time you submit your FAFSA to

when you are awarded your financial aid varies from school to school. You’ll want to contact your school to find out what to expect.

• Do NOT assume you have been awarded financial aid, simply because you completed your FAFSA.

Money Doesn’t Grow on Trees…

Other places you should look include:

• High School Counselors• Community Businesses• Employers• State Agencies (Kansas Board of Regents)• Church• Financial Aid Office

are awarded for those whohave applied for admissions and included their ACT and/or GPA

by March 15th.
