“…A friend, Gloria Upchurch, knew the owner of a group of game lodges in Tanzania. Willy Chambulo, who is one of the heroes of this story, also owns a tour guide company called Kibo Guides. Gloria and I arranged our trip with Kibo Guides and went to Tanzania in June of 2009 looking for the inspiration to launch our mission. On the western slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro near a Kibo Guides lodge, Kambiya Tembo, we were introduced to an influential Maasai midwife, YaYa, and within an hour the mission was clear”- D. The Water Situation in November 2013
• Wet months 2.9 liters per person per day
• During the dry months 1.7 liters per day per person.
Does not include adult livestock and the Maasai will go without so their cattle can drink
Population of 550 adults, without differentiating between the 300 adults and 250 children.

Investigation Shows Technical Feasibility

EWB –USA SBV Meets Rotary Club of Goleta3-25-2014 17
Technical Scope of TZ Water Project
Scope 26 l/p/d for 550 individuals every day of the yearwith a 4.05% population growth = 16 lpm (4.3 gpm)
This does not include “25 l/lu/d for livestock”; “A bull can drink 25 liters a day”, said an Olmoti Maasai
Basis of Assumptions (from Rural Monduli) •Average is 9.2 litres per person per day (l/p/d)•Recommended 25l/p/d •Expressed community demand of 26 l/p/d in rural areas for domestic use•Population growth between 3.8 and 4.3%
