TRANSCRIPT

“Space the final frontier” Captain James T. Kirk

Space amazes me because of all the beautiful stars, moons, planets, and it vast size.

For this project I have chosen one of Jupiter's moons named “Europa”.

Fun Fact

Did you know that Jupiter has about 64 other moons?

HISTORY

Europa was Discovered in 1610 by Galileo Galilei.

Fun Fact Did you know that Galileo Galilei also found Jupiter's three other largest moons, Io, Ganymede, and Calisto?

ORBITEuropa orbits Jupiter in just over three and a half days.

ECCENTRICITY

The eccentricity for Europa is 0.101

so it is one big circle.

ROTATION

The revolution period for Europa is 3.55 earth days.

DISTANCE FROM THE SUN

Europa is about 780 million kilometers or 480 million miles away from the Sun.

GRAVITY The gravity on Europa is 0.134g as opposed to earth which is 0.99732g. So the gravity is weaker.

TEMPERATUREThe temperature of Earth is about 287.2 Kelvin or 14 ° Celsius, but Europa is around 102 Kelvin or -171 ºC so it is very cold.

Fun Fact

Did you know that Europa is cold enough to freeze the ocean underneath it.

WEATHERThe weather on Europa is cold and icy but if you were to melt all of the ice and it would make the planet liveable.

Fun Fact

Did you know that Europa could one day possibly sustain life.

EXPLORATION

Most knowledge of Europa has been received from a series of flybys beginning in the 1970s. The sister crafts Pioneer 10 and Pioneer 11 were the first to visit Jupiter, in 1973 and 1974.

Fun Fact

Did you know that the first photos of Jupiter's largest moons produced by the Pioneers were fuzzy and dim compared to later missions.

EXPLORATION 2The two Voyager probes traveled through the Jovian system in 1979 providing more detailed images of Europa's icy surface. The images caused many scientists to consider about the possibility of a liquid ocean underneath.

THE END

And this concludes my planet project
