Menswear Collection Autumn Winter 2011/2012

The cow as a metaphor for mountain and central European culture. I remember places, often neglected, from which climbers like Walter Bonatti and Reinhold Messner set out to make their greatest dreams come true, to which artists like Mauro Corona from Erto have dedicated all their work and which have yielded illustrious fi gures from days gone by. They are members of the “Germanic world” which has contributed so much towards creating and spreading European culture, from Frederic II of Svevia, King of Italy, to Ludwig II of Bavaria. They might be personalities that diff er greatly but they are all linked by their goal of acquiring knowledge and transmitting it: art and science, agriculture and technology for Frederic II; music and wonder for Ludwig II; the “secrets” of the mountain seen as the “cathedral” of our existence by Bonatti, Messner and Corona. The cow has also been a metaphor for fertility and abundance for thousands of years, the “mother” that breast feeds, clothes and protects, the modern archetype of Mother Earth. Lastly, the cow represents memories of years past, when from my window at Cambridge I could watch it wandering tamely, docile and wise, and as loving as only those that know how to give love. The cow crosses time and space, remaining unchanged forever, giving itself to us entirely with every day that passes.

Coast to Coats

Soft earthy wools are used to weave jackets of a distinctly Tyrolean fl avour

full of unusual details such as the coin-buttons that become cuffl inks used for closing the lapels.

The braiding borrowed from mountain seamstresses,the wavy fringes around the bottom and cuffs,

the embroidery woven like wicker baskets around armholes

It gave a means for signing letters and decrees, as shown by the Greek origins of the term Egkauston itself,

which actually means “fi re-branded”.Like the fl uidity of ink, the paisley fl ows

like textures on the bags, recalling its form and colour,
