Who Is Espar?
• Espar is a wholly owned subsidiary of Eberspaecher, representing the North America heater division established in 1973. Products are offered OE with a nation-wide dealer network offering aftermarket sales and support of equipment. Eberspaecher is the largest producer of fuel-operated heaters in the world.
• Espar offers fuel-operated heaters for engine pre-heat & supplemental cabin heat for a wide variety of vehicles and equipment from automotive, trucks, buses, to large construction equipment and military equipment. Use of these heaters allow engine pre-heat and drivers to stay warm without prolonged engine idling. Fuel-operated heaters do not require any plug in. These operate with on-board gasoline, diesel, blends, or bio-diesel and a small amp draw on the vehicle battery.
Espar makes idle reduction possible!

Why Do Drivers Idle Diesel Engines?
Drivers Idle The Engine:
•To Pre-Heat The Engine and Defrost Before Driving
•To Make Sure Engine Will Start When Needed
•While Waiting in the Cab of Vehicle or Equipment
•To Get Heat in the Bunk While Sleeping

Tested and Validated
• ESPAR is listed on the EPA website as an idle reduction solution
• ESPAR earned CARB approvalCalifornia Air Resources Board--industry standard for low emissions ULEVII

Why Not Just IdleThe Engine? Old Habits May Be Hard To Break!
• High Fuel Costs - Idling gives you ZERO mpg
• Increased Maintenance Expense– One hour of idling puts the same wear on the engine as two hours of driving the
bus, degrades engine oil and reduces the life of the engine oil by 75%*
– Idling damages the engine from carbon deposits on valves and pistons, and accumulation of water and sulfur in the engine
• Shorter Time Between Engine Rebuilds
• More Tons of Exhaust Pollutants Enter The Air
* FLEETSMART Idling Gets You Nowhere, Canada’s Office of Energy Efficiency

Solution--Pull The Plug On Idling
• Plugging In an electric block heater will provide limited heat in the engine block to help the engine start in cold weather.
• Plugging In does not pre-heat the entire engine and coolant system or create warm defrost. Drivers regularly idle the bus for heat and defrost even when using a plug-in system.
• Plugging in costs the school district or municipal government money for electricity in addition to fuel expense for idling*
*Excel spreadsheet calculator is available to calculate cost of using electric block heaters compared to fuel-operated heaters

AIRTRONIC D2 HEATER Work Trucks, Sleepers, Day Cabs, Other Vehicles & Equipment
• Air heaters blow warm air so the main diesel engine can be shut down
• Weighs 7 pounds and the size of a loaf of bread
• Has four-speeds and air circulation mode for operator comfort
• Up to 7,500 BTU of clean comfortable heat
• Medium setting uses only .04 gallons per hour
and about as much voltage as a single marker light
• EPA SmartWay Verified & CARB approved (D2, D4 & D5)
• Built in safety features for worry-free operation

Idling Used $6,000 in fuel—One class 8 truck for one year
The quick and simple formula
Assumptions-– Idle fuel consumption-ONE gal/hr (.85-1.25)
– 150 days per year to idle engine for HEAT* (*per US EPA)
– 10 hours per day = 1,500 hrs/yr– Diesel Fuel Costs $4 gal*
(* Cost of diesel in Midwest $3.968 on 8/13/12 http://www.eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/ )
1,500 idle hours x $4 = $6,000
Example above results in 33,300 pounds of carbon dioxide—for one truck, one year!
US EPA estimates that every gallon of diesel fuel burned results in 22.2 pounds of carbon dioxide.
Cost of fuel to operate the Espar Airtronic D2 bunk heater on medium is approximately $231 for same time period.
Espar Heater Systems 2010 / 11
• Works like a hot water heater--Internal circulating pump provides engine
preheat throughout the coolant system so the entire block is warmed
• No plug-ins required which provides for convenience and flexibility.
• Available with timer/controller for fast preheat in advance
--requires only 1-2 hours for complete engine warm up
• Immediate window defrosting and interior cab warmth.
• Minimal power consumption which saves on batteries.
• Excellent pre-heating capability for combinations of on-board oils or fluids.
• Eliminate early morning idling for engine warmup
Idling damages the engine from carbon deposits on
valves and pistons, degradation of engine oil,
and accumulation of water and sulfur in the engine

Vehicles -- Warm Engine Starts
Benefits-
• Less requirement for “jump starts”
• Less driver concern that truck engine will start
• Less wear on cold engine warming up
• Less public image issues from noise and smoke
• Less pollution from starting a cold engine
MORE PRODUCTIVITY

Idling Solution--Espar E-Guardian Engine Pre-Heaters for School Buses
An Espar fuel-operated engine pre-heater
•Starts on a timer before the driver arrives and pumps warm coolant throughout the system to warm the entire engine
•Uses a small fraction of the fuel used by the main engine
•Results in the defrosters producing warm air quickly for a safer view of the road
•Reduces the problems of morning bus “no starts”
•Is listed on the EPA website as an idle reduction solution

Idle Reduction for School Buses Saves Dollars
Simple Example:
– Diesel fuel costs $4 per gallon
– Idling consumes nearly one gallon per hour
– Idling for 2 hours per day for heat and defrost
– 100 average cold school days per year
– Cost $8 per day to idle the bus
– $800 cost of fuel used to idle one bus per school year
– Lifetime of a school bus is 12+ years, $800 X 12 years = $9,600
THE FIGURES MAY CHANGE But the message remains the same
IDLE REDUCTION SAVES BIG DOLLARSIDLE REDUCTION SAVES BIG DOLLARS
Example above results in 4,440 pounds of carbon dioxide—for one year, one bus!
US EPA estimates that every gallon of diesel fuel burned results in 22.2 pounds of carbon dioxide.

Customer Comments Integrated Into Product Development—New Controller
• Daily timer/controller operation is selected from a menu—day of the week, time of day the heater starts, duration of run time
• Timer/controller allows driver to have one button “on” control of the heater while waiting “extra time” for students—fleet manager can choose duration of run time with manual “on”.
• Includes ambient temperature sensor to prevent pre-heater from running on a warm day—fleet manager selects the desired temperature.
• Ability to automatically “skip” school holidays—can be set for yearly schedule during the summer
• Fleet manager can select low voltage disconnect setting
• Even adjusts automatically for daylight savings time—for truly “hands off” operation

New Espar Option Defrosters Working BEFORE The Driver Arrives
• New option BLOWER CONTROL MODULE BLOWER CONTROL MODULE used with Espar fuel-operated pre-heater, will automatically start the bus defrosters at a greatly reduced amp draw when the coolant temperature reaches 86 degrees
• The windows can be defrosted BEFORE the driver arrives--without running the engine or depleting the battery-- includes low voltage disconnect—further reducing the need to idle the bus

Sometimes IT IS EasyIT IS Easy Being “GREEN”
Positive Cash Flow
•Fuel-operated heaters are a “green technology” thatcan actually pay for itself in fuel savings alone in about 40 days on a class 8 truck or two to three years on a school bus based on idling habits and cost of fuel.
•Result = For many years, the cash saved from reduced idlingstays in the school budget, municipal budget, or truck operations
Could decreased fuel consumption, decreased maintenance, and a warmer vehicle keep your fleet on the road and in the budget?
Could a warmer, defrosted vehicle help to retain your drivers?
