• Dictionary helps

http://www.school.eb.com/

Turn on Translator in Comption’s• On main page search for an article using

keyword search• It gives you several choices• Select a topic and click to expand the article• At the top of this page when you are inside a

topic or article, the translator is turned on or off.• Then when the mouse is used to hover over

difficult words, the Spanish word pops up over it

Why you should use Compton’s

• This is great for English language learners• Can be reached from home or school• Is at a level with Upper Elem, Middle School to

Jr High articles so easily understood (6th to 8th grade)

• Others in computer lab don’t have to know the child is being helped with this translator

• Great help on research projects for ELL/ESL• Teaching resources on their website

http://web.ebscohost.com

• Get the passcodes• Give them to ESL teachers, Foreign Language

teachers, ELL teachers and Prek /Primary teachers

• Do a workshop for them• Send home forms for the students

EBSCO Magazine Database• Has over 300 magazines and newspapers

updated daily and back issues to around 1987• You can choose the language at the beginning

screen or later• Accessible from home or school• Free to all AR schools• Have passcodes readily available in library to

pass out to anyone who asks; do not list user id or pw for databases on your website- say “see librarian for access codes”

Find an article and find “Idioms” to select language

Translated articles

• After searching for an article, select from many languages to change the English article to Spanish, French, Dutch, Portugese, Italian, Nordic and other languages

• Student can attempt the article in English first then read the translation or vice versa; print both to get help from non English speaking parents
