Challenges

• Resistance and apprehension to changes in roles and strategies– facilitation of learning – exploration and experimentation must become habitual

• Need for stronger advocacy on ALS and ICT in Education (actual utilization instead of mere deployment)

• Recognition of maturity models: ICT competence-and-use, pedagogical/andragogical practices, community-building

• Focus on A&E Test rather than life skills • Focus on technical skills rather than content (quality) of

outputs• Changes take time

– always consider maturity models and handholding mechanisms– still a long way to go…

A&E Test Performance

eSkwela Average

National Average

Feb 2008 (4 sites) 57% 29%

Oct 2008 (5 sites) 65% 23%

Oct 2009 (partial: 9 sites)

46% 21%

Oct 2010 (partial: 16 sites)

63% 33%

• Site Implementers: – less work = less routine admin work, more work

= more facilitative– more open to explore and innovate– appreciation of monitoring and handholding

interventions; of synergy and community spirit/ support groups

• Learners: free educ, learning is FUN, more engaged, creative, excited; blended approach preferred– flexible, better access to choices (LMS), easier

implementation of self-paced learning

• ICT-supported PBL = real-life application + 21st C skills + additional income-generating skill

a beacon of hope...

~ served an estimated 4,700 learners since 2007
