Objectives

1. Define what KSA’s are.

2. Identify what your current and desired KSA’s are.

3. Learn how to confidently market your strengths and talents so you standout in an applicant pool of other wellness candidates.

4. Be able to understand there are many resources and opportunities available for emerging wellness professionals.

3

EWP’s want to know…

• Experienced Colleagues – “One resource in particular for me that I found challenging at first was learning to market wellness.

My college, at the time I went through, did not offer a marketing course on this which made a steep learning curve for me when I first began – especially with communication to 500+ people of various demographics. Likewise, I found this is also critical in the one-on-one presentations with leadership as well. Wellness can be a touchy subject depending on who you are talking to and it would’ve

helped tremendously to have a more firm understanding of this beforehand.”

• Young Professional Colleagues – “I would have gotten more involved with other organizations or resources available that are offered

through NWI or WELCOA such as webinars, conferences, etc.. Doing activities like these really help give a fresh perspective on various wellness topics that I never thought of before. Likewise, conferences are a great way to meet others who share the same passions . In doing so, I feel I would have come in with a more holistic understanding of wellness and how it fits into different organizations and their cultures. “

– “I wish I would have done more to gain experience and in doing so find out where I wanted to work in. This could have been through shadowing, doing internships way before my last semester, working, etc.”

4

• Current College Students – How do I make myself marketable?

– How can I be competitive in the job market with little to no experience?

– How do I build a resume?

– What credentials should I invest in?

Your success depends on how well you promote yourself. Nobody can do it for you. “If you look at top performers in any field, including business, they aren’t good at everything they do. They’re usually great at a few things, which gets them to the top of the corporate ladder.”
