External Search Activities• From the Oral B website, we found current information on
how electric toothbrushes are made and looked into patents.
• We looked at the recyclability of toothbrushes and materials we can use to make our toothbrush recyclable.
• We used another companies toothbrush model that was not electric but was sustainable as a model to offer sustainability ideas.
• We looked at how a lot of energy is wasted to gain an understanding of where we could be saving the most energy when designing our toothbrush.
Generated Concepts
• To generate concepts, we used the time in class to come up with all sots of ideas. Some were not even feasible but overall, it was helpful.
• In the next slides, you can see some of the ideas that we each come up with during this time period.

Final Design• Interchangeable heads
– Vibrating or Rotating – Soft or Hard Bristles
• Slim body design with all replaceable parts
• An combination electromagnetic/USB charger
• A rod that vibrates or in a gear mechanism included in replacement heads
Final Design Operations
• Electromagnetism/battery power is used to power the toothbrush
• While brushing, current is produced and converted within the brush.
• Power is transferred to the motor which using a series of gears, will convert the motion to vibrating or rotating in the neck of the toothbrush.
