Becoming more comfortable with

technology

Immersion- dive in head first and surround yourself with technology until you learn how to use it. Trial and error.

Find someone to teach more than the basics.

Start small and increase your use of technology.

Enhancing teaching through technologyUse collaboration

Students who collaborate become more comfortable with their own ideas and those of others.

Online tools -Google, blogs, email, Twitter, Facebook, and many others.

Walk students through the proper rules for the use of technology.

Teach the students how to use the technology (don't be afraid to make mistakes).

Creating meaningful connections

Relate to life outside of the classroom.

Find themes across the century (persecution, exploring, and building).

Allow students to create alternative assignments (wiki pages, blogs, PowerPoint presentations, etcetera).

As teachers we are always looking for ways to engage students by allowing them to have some input into their learning we are actively engaging them.

Students want to learn we just have to be willing to allow them the freedom to explore.
