• Facilities customized for strong

resident centered activity

programs, with specific needs and

mental exercise, support groups,

training and educational

opportunities

• Fostering independence,

competence, control, mobility, and

function

• Safe and effective movement

without assistance

• Relying on evidence based

design—the critical research

findings and post occupancy

evaluations of long term healthcare

facilities

• Empower, maintain comfort and

dignity

• Supportive informed environments

consider lighting an integral

element of life enhancement

• “Healing environments don’t just

happen”

• Reflect the culture of the

organization—listen, understand

and responding to their input

• Suitable environmental design

• “Environmental non-

pharmacological interventions”

• Recognizing the challenges of late

life neurodegenerative diseases

• A sense of control and influence

over our lives

• Keeping the family effective in the

care facility environment

• Habilitation therapy

• “Thoughtful psychological,

behavioral, and environmental

approaches can often have a

faster, safer, and more effective

impact than pharmacological

interventions”

This 20 bed Hospice Unit was a dream come true

for the hospice staff that had been caring for

patients in an older very clinical patient wing at

the main hospital. The unit supports caregivers

while comforting patients with a home-like

atmosphere . Earth tones with multiple colored

accents, soft lighting and natural and

architectural photography create warmth and

moments of interest for privacy and dignity.

The Thompsons were not utilizing their family

room because it was separated from the kitchen.

By relocating their laundry room upstairs (much

closer to the bedrooms), we were able to create a

timeless butlers pantry adjacent to the kitchen.

This architectural modification allowed the

additional cabinets necessary to remove the

walls which had been a barrier. The new open

space borrowed natural light from both the

north and the south sides of the house by

removing walls and adding a clerestory window.

The new open family room was transformed from

an ordinary room into a relaxed welcoming

family space that encourages gatherings and

connected moments. The use of color, contrast

and texture enhance the architectural details and

custom tile work and new mantle transform the

feature wall. Existing furnishings appeared new

again with the support of new carpet, paint and

a few accessories.

Fox Chase Cancer Center decided to bring

Cyberknife Robotic technology to Bucks County

Pennsylvania. They needed a design that

respected the limitations of their tenant lease

while reaching out to the community to offer the

latest advances in radiation therapy close to

home. The palette was developed in response to

the client‟s request to incorporate the warm

tones of the rural landscape to create a calming

environment while incorporating “green”

sustainable building elements.

At the beginning of construction documentation I was

brought in to support the Senior Interior Designer. Initially I

was responsible for picking up 'redlines' and refining the

interior finishes, furniture, furniture plans, schedules, and

preparing the final finish presentation board. My

responsibilities expanded to performing 'clash detection' for

the architectural, equipment, and life safety reflected ceiling

plans. I executed the CAD changes necessary to meet the

Lab's functional requirements. And updated the engineer’s

backgrounds.
