The church was built round because it was

believed that evil spirits lurked in dark

Confederate Officers were trained at the

Citadel, which faired far better than others during the Civil War.

This sunken ship was a blockade runner.

Fort Sumter

Artillery damage is visible in the walls of the fort. The Palmetto

was named the state tree for it’s ability to absorb the shock of

cannonball fire.
