A cycle of continuous, sustained improvement.
Leadership InstituteThe Leadership Institute provides high-quality, research-based training for district and school leaders. Participants will gain insight and strategies for developing a 21st century learning culture. Topics include: Leading Change, Leading for Teaching and Learning, Using Data, Inter-rater Reliability (focusing on teacher-evaluation models or program implementation look-fors), Providing Effective, Actionable Feedback, and Engaging Families and Communities.
LEADERSHIP
The Math InstituteWhere do you focus instruction? The Math Institute gives teachers a clear picture of the key math concepts all students need to master at each grade level. Teachers learn to first address the underlying mathematics concepts. Then they can use this foundation to build students’ skills and problem-solving abilities. Teachers will learn to create classrooms of self-directed independent learners, build students’ content knowledge, and model mathematical concepts. Additional topics addressed in the Math Institute include: Understanding and Deepening Rigor (Webb’s DOK and Bloom’s Taxonomy), Choosing Rich Tasks, Fostering Mathematical Discourse, Assessment Practices, and Using Technology to Foster Mathematical Proficiency.
The Math Institute is excellent professional learning for teachers transitioning to a new math program or a new instructional model.
The Literacy InstituteHow can teachers help their students become college-and-career ready readers and writers? The Literacy Institute provides an integrated overview for English language arts (ELA) teachers. Explore new 21st century survival skills and backwards curriculum design. Learn ways to support new instructional shifts, analyze student thinking, and instill classroom routines that promote literacy proficiency. Make content more accessible by applying the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), while still setting rigorous expectations for students. Examine measures of cognitive and task complexity (Webb’s Depth of Knowledge and Bloom’s Taxonomy) and develop tasks of increased rigor for ELA classrooms. Engage with and analyze sample performance tasks that align with CCSS. Design instructional units where students demonstrate mastery of the standards and develop smart academic behaviors.
The Literacy Institute is excellent professional learning for teachers transitioning to a new literacy program or a new instructional model. STEM InstituteLearn to integrate STEM instruction into existing curricula. Put science and math into action through inquiry and the engineering design process. The STEM Institute presents best practices that help students apply mathematical and scientific reasoning. Besides instructional support, Pearson STEM specialists offer comprehensive on-site leadership. Get hands-on support in lesson and assessment development. Learn how to create and install a STEM curriculum and interdisciplinary unit. Focus areas include project- and inquiry-based learning, using technology-supported learning tools, and backwards design. Also focus on the 5E instructional model.
Meeting the Needs of English Langugae LearnersEnglish language learners (ELLs) are the fastest-growing student population. These sessions help teachers support ELLs and meet Rigorous State Standards. Learn research-based strategies and sound pedagogical practices for English language development. Recognize language proficiency levels, review language acquisition theory, and discover how to facilitate language learning. Build on cultural and equity assumptions to motivate ELLs.
This institute provides support in the area of scaffolding instruction when implementing new programs by using various components including the use of visual representations, vocabulary/academic language development, and the use of technology to enhance and deepen instruction.
TEACHING AND LEARNING
iLitiLit is a comprehensive literacy program for teaching your ELA and ELD standards. Each version of iLit helps to accelerate student performance in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Inspire literacy and language growth, inspire teachers! iLit gives students access to thousands of high-interest texts in a digital, leveled library.
Math NavigatorMath Navigator is a supplemental intervention program aligned with the Common Core State Standards. These training sessions help teachers use the program to deepen students’ conceptual understanding. Learn how to better develop students’ problem-solving skills and repair misconceptions. Focus on teaching foundational concepts, creating a language-rich environment, and using an algebraic approach to reviewing arithmetic. Participants receive instructional guidance, support for special populations, and strategies for assessments.

Accelerate Language Proficiency GainsEnglish language learners (ELLs) are the fastest growing population in the United States, and all students need academic language skills in order to meet today's new standards. With so many ELLs in school, every teacher is potentially an ELL teacher. These students need extra support to help them develop the academic language necessary for success in school and beyond.
Partner with Pearson The Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP®) Model is a scientifically-validated framework that supports teachers in planning and delivering high-quality lessons. With proper implementation, the SIOP® Model helps you build content knowledge and academic language at the same time. The SIOP® Model is essential for teaching ELLs, but beneficial to all students.

SIOP® Training for Teachers helps teachers gain an in-depth understanding of the components of the SIOP® Model and strategies to implement it in their classrooms. Using the best-selling, research-based book Making Content Comprehensible for English Learners: The SIOP® Model, participants gain practical skills to collaborate, share, and implement lesson plans that incorporate all eight components and thirty features of SIOP® in order to teach content while developing students’ academic and social language. Each day is 6 hours and accommodates up to 30 participants.

Component Enrichment Educators deepen their understanding of the features of each component of the SIOP® Model during the one-day Component Enrichment sessions. The sessions include a review of the research base for the component as well as lesson planning time to allow teachers to work together, writing SIOP® lessons under the supervision of the SIOP® Consultant. Developing Academic Language explores the process of identifying, writing, and implementing language objectives in SIOP® Model lessons. Participants learn how to examine the language demands of different subject areas, write appropriate language objectives, and incorporate them into SIOP® lessons. The course is suitable for teachers who have already studied the SIOP® Model’s components and features and want extended practice with building academic language and literacy skills in English learners and other students. Each day is 6 hours and accommodates up to 30 participants per day.
— 1 day —
Lesson Coaching and Modeling is a job-embedded, collaborative approach to professional development and dialogue about effective lessons. A group of teacher teams and a SIOP® Consultant meet to co-develop a lesson that is tied to the overall goal of improving student achievement. Then the Consultant and a teacher co-teach the lesson while the rest of the team observes. After the lesson, the team meets to discuss the lesson and any changes that could be made in planning and delivering the lesson using the SIOP® Model. Each day is 6 hours and accommodates up to 20 participants.
— — 5 days
SIOP® Observation and Feedback brings a SIOP® Consultant into your school to observe teachers and complete the SIOP® protocol. The teachers and Consultant then meet to debrief on the lesson, focusing on either the first four or the final four SIOP® components, and the Consultant provides feedback and coaching. Each day is 6 hours and accommodates up to 4 participants per day.
