Why is Ecuador a stagnated economy?

• Proximate cause: Macroeconomic uncertainty, and microeconomic rigidities

• Ultimate cause: Institutional Uncertainty

• The consequence of all this is poverty...

What is institutional uncertainty?

• When any group of individuals are unable to interact and to carry on their activities; such as: economic, political, and religious, etc. Because their environment is unpredictable.

What are the causes of Institutional Uncertainty (in Ecuador)?

• Capture of the State

• Its regulatory or law-making power

• Its discretion to allocate fiscal funds (pork barrel)

• Opposing groups take turns in power behaving alike, but favoring different constituents with public funds

Prisión de un año por gas en taxisQUITO

La Dirección Nacional de Hidrocarburos (DNH) advirtió ayer con sancionar con prisión hasta por un año a quienes sin autorización utilicen gas doméstico subsidiado en la combustión de los taxis.

Los únicos autorizados a usar el combustible son las unidades que instalaron equipos de conversión dual en sus unidades y pertenecen a la Federación de Taxis del Ecuador (Fedetaxis), informó el Ministerio de Recursos Naturales.

El Gobierno Nacional se muestra estricto en su decisión de que los costos de los pasajes en el servicio de transportación urbana se mantengan inalterables. Bajo esta premisa sostiene desde hoy reuniones con dirigentes de ese sector.

El régimen pagó por subsidios a combustibles $ 10.096 millones en los tres años del gobierno de Rafael Correa. Equivale a la deuda externa pública del 2008 ($ 10.089 millones) y supera a la del 2009 ($ 7.392, luego de la declaratoria unilateral de la moratoria y posterior recompra).
