DESCRIPTION

This Powerpoint is one small part of an educational unit that can be downloaded at http://sciencepowerpoint.com/index.html This is Part I/IV of an educational unit about Evolution / Change Topics for students in grades 5-8. The unit explores Evolution, Natural Selection, Characteristics of Life, Life Origins, Human Origins, and Ecological Succession. Teaching Duration = 5 weeksThe Change Topics Unit includes a five part interactive and engaging Powerpoint Presentation of 1875+ total slides with built in class notes (Red Slides), lab activities, project ideas, discussion questions, assessments (Quiz Wiz), challenge questions with answers, videos, and much more. Text is in large print (32 font) and is placed at the top of each slide so it can seen and read from all angles of a classroom. The entire unit except for the videos can edited to fit any curriculum or time requirement. Also included is a four part 27 total page assessment that chronologically follows the Powerpoint slideshow for nightly homework, as well as a 10+ page modified assessment. 15 pages of class notes with images are also included for students who require assistance, as well as answer keys to both of the assessments for support professionals, teachers, and homeschool parents. 19 video shorts (FLV files) are provided and a slide within the slideshow cues teacher / parent when the videos are most relevant to play. Video shorts usually range from 2-7 minutes and are included in organized folders. Two Powerpoint review games are included (125+ slides). Answers to the Powerpoint review game are provided in Powerpoint form so students can self-assess. Lastly, several class games such as guess the hidden picture beneath the boxes, and the find the hidden owl somewhere within the slideshow are provided. Difficulty rating 6/10.Areas of Focus within the Change Topics Unit: Concept "Everything is Changing", The Diversity of Life Photo Tour, Evolution History,Scopes Monkey Trials, Darwin, Evolution, Evidences of Evolution, Four Parts to Darwin's Theory, Natural Selection, The Mechanisms for Natural Selection, Divergent Evolution, Convergent Evolution, What does it mean to be living?, Characteristics of Living Things, Origins of Life (Other Theories), Origins of Life (Science Theory), Needs of Living Things, Origins of the Universe (Timeline), Miller-Urey Experiment, Amino Acids, How Water Aided in the Origin of Life, Human Evolution, Hominid Features, Evidences of Human Evolution, Hominid Skulls Ecological Succession, Primary Succession, Secondary Succession, Plant Succession, Animal Succession, Stages of Ecological Succession, Events that Restart Succession.Thank you for watching this video. • RED SLIDE: These are notes that are very important and should be recorded in your science journal.

• BLACK SLIDE: Pay attention, follow directions, complete projects as described and answer required questions neatly.

• Lichens wear down rock, facilitate weathering and soil formation. Moss then begins to grow.

• Moss will hold more soil and moisture, Grasses begin to colonize.

• The essence of succession is that each species brings upon it’s own downfall by changing the environment.

• Other organisms can survive and then dominate.

• The process repeats and each species die until climax community. You create your own extinction.
