Recycling Program Proposal

ECOCLUB

Recycling at CCAThe ECOCLUB has been vouching for a recycling

program at its school since its founding in 2004.

• The TRIP Program – put into action 2004– Teachers graded and rewarded every month for

proper recycling– Locked out

• Club member action – 2004-05– Member volunteers to help collect and label

recycling– Reliability issues

• Hallway recycling bins – proposed to administration in 2004– Teachers empty bins into hallway containers, which

are collected to be recycled.– Lack in custodial services

The NEW Proposal

ECOCLUB will help fund

the hiring of additionalcustodial services, or topay for the extra hoursneeded by the existingcustodial staff.

– Fundraisers– ASB Support: partial

funding, advertising– CCA Foundation aid?

As a new school, ECOCLUB wants to make sure that CCA sets a good example for other schools and organizations by creating an effective recycling program.

The NEW Proposal

• After initial steps have been taken, money generated from the recycling program should help to make it self-sufficient and pay for itself.

Money Gained

Minimal effort will be needed to motivate students to recycle as many already do; recycling just isn’t being collected.

Additional Proposals

• To minimize workload and time, teachers may bring recycling into hallways as before so that custodians will need to collect from fewer rooms and bins.

Monthly school-wide bagging of recyclables

Parent volunteers to transport recyclables – Refunded/tax deductionCity collection: are we on the recycling collection route?

Additional Proposals

• Chicken Wire Recycling TowerGiant (~8-10 feet tall) wire receptacle to be installed and attached to some pole outside in lunch area

Cans, bottles, recyclables can be thrown into the tower

Add more wire on top when filled, collect and recycle cans

Student involvement: fun way of recycling.

Benefits from a Recycling Program

• Environmental aid• Improvements in school image• Profit from recycling can pay for

club needs or can be donated and/or repaid to the CCA Foundation

Whatever the cost or struggle, ECOCLUB wants

to RECYCLE.
