New Core i7 technology
Eclipse is based on Intel X58, supporting the new socket LGA1366 for new Core i7 CPU’s (Nehalem architecture).
Int. MemoryController
Why Eclipse?
• An Eclipse is still mysterious and for many unknown phenomenon; just like X58
• The MSI Eclipse has a new colour scheme; Black & Dark Blue with a copper heat-pipe, same colours as visible during an eclipse
• MSI Eclipse is designed with in mind to overshadow all other mainboards
Pronunciation/ ’kl ps/ or /i’kl ps/ɛ ɪ ɪ
NounEclipse: The term is most often used to describe either a solar eclipse, when the Moon's shadow crosses the Earth's surface, or a lunar eclipse, when the Moon moves into the shadow of Earth.VerbEclipse: (transitive) To overshadow; to be better or more noticeable than others.

Let’s take a look what the media had to say about DrMOS on P45...
The Media about DrMOS
HardOCP.com1 (USA) about DrMOS:
Bit-Tech.net2 (UK) about DrMOS:
Benchmark.co.yu3 (Serbia) about DrMOS:
Technews.lt4 (Lithuania) about DrMOS:
Tweaktown.com5 (Australia) about DrMOS
“It was cool to the touch regardless of how long the system had run or how much overclocking I did. This was the coolest running board I’ve seen in some time.”
“It seems that in work PWM at DKA790GX Platinum is noticeably cooler than Gigabyte solution even with Gigabyte massive full-pipe system.”
“..MSI does happen to make the board with the lowest power consumption under load. That said though, at just 155W under load it's only 20-25W more than the idle Gigabyte GA-EP45-DQ6!”
“DrMOS chip has four times the area smaller than take the standard MOSFET + IC. Of course, this noticeably improves the stability and speeding up.“
“MSIs first dive into the green PC market is extremely impressive. …The new Driver Mosfets manage to help keep the boards’ key components at cooler temperatures than any of the competitor’s boards, showing just how well this new technology can work.”

Less Phase is better
(Fake) 12-Phase and 16-Phase PWMs are only for marketing.
Anandtech.com6 (USA) about Asus P45 PWM
MSI has designed a True 6-PhasePWM based on DrMOS.
“The P5Q3 may report the use of a 16-phase PWM but we know better. Although ASUS design engineers have added a lot of extra chokes and MOSFETS, the overall capacity of the power delivery circuit remains comparable to their competitors‘… …we would rather see ASUS concentrate their efforts on designing an entirely new circuit based on a true 6-phase PWM.”
“Unlike Asus and Gigabyte, who seem more than content with trying to outswing each other in the more-phases-are-better e-peen department, MSI manages to do exactly the same as these double figure implemen-tations with just the five phases.”
DrMOS does more with less
MSI DrMOS works efficient, stays cool and provides the best performance. MSI P45 already proved this.
Tom’s Hardware7 (Germany) about DrMOS:
Bit-Tech.net8 (UK) about DrMOS:
“You’d expect the highest stable CPU clock to be reached using the 16-phase power regulator of Asus or Gigabyte, but instead we find MSI’s 6-phase products taking first and second place.”
With Eclipse we will take DrMOS to the next level...
2-Phase DrMOS on QPI and Chipset
On P45/790GX we’ve put DrMOS on the CPU PWM. Eclipse will have 2-Phase QPI DrMOS and2-Phase Chipset DrMOS!

APS switches power phases on or off to increase efficiency. Unlike other solutions APS is the only one which works on all power phases, not only on the CPU PWM.

“When used with north bridge, memory and CPU, the GreenPower efficiency drops MSI’s power use a massive 30W under load and a fairly significant 12W when idle.”

Full control via BIOS or GreenPower Center
APS is fully integrated in the MSI GreenPower design; it can react very fast without a delay. It’s fully managable via the BIOS (OS independent > Linux) or GreenPower Center.
Bit-Tech.net11 (UK) about APS:
APS is OS independent
“The real-time adjustments are even faster and more acute than even what Gigabyte offers – the power phase use is constantly changing from one to two, two to three, two to four, etc in fast relation to CPU load demands.”
“If you want to limit the system to just a certain phase use – say always on four phases, you can do that too.”

Others are splitting each phase up into 2 weaker phases to reach higher numbers for marketing. If they switch off one PWM-IC phase, two phases are switched off. MSI has a True 6-Phase DrMOS PWM.

MSI Eclipse True 6-Phase DrMOS PWM
Why is the MSI PWM design better?
Others use a 6-Phase PWM-IC (conv. to 12) and switch in steps of 2. Each using 6 components (4 MOSFETs + 2 Chokes) which each waste power and generate heat. MSI APS switches in steps of 1 and each using only 2 components (1 DrMOS + 1 Choke).

Behold the future of computing…Behold the future of computing…
Eclipse and more…Eclipse and more…
Our engineers put a lot of research in smart PCB layout design to optimize the airflow and improve the cooling.
Anandtech14 (USA):
Smart PCB layout design
All 10 SATA connectors (4 standing + 6 angled) and the angled IDE connector are accessible when 3 VGA cards are installed.
Extra airflow between VGA cards and space for big sized aftermarket VGA coolers.
You can remove the memory modules without removing first the VGA Card
Flat Hi-c CAP’s creates more space for larger coolers
Low profile Split Thermal System to allow larger CPU coolers
“In fact, the layout of the X58 Eclipse is one of the best we have seen in a long time with all ports and slots easily accessed.”
Eclipse SLI has a special Solid Circuit design. OC’er Coolaler was able to set a skyhigh memory bandwidth record15 on air cooling.

MSI P45 comes with a lot of unique BIOS innovations, targetedat the enthusiasts and overclockers.
-Memory-ZVery detailed memory information in the BIOS;no need to switch to Windows
-Multi-step OC BoosterYou can always access the BIOS evenafter a failed OC attempt. The OC is not applied in
the BIOS and starts when you enter Windows.
-Extreme voltagesYou can tweak all board voltages in small steps of
10mV to achieve the highest OC scores.
-Advanced Memory Timings Overclocking the memory timings provides you
extra performance to set that high OC score
-Improved Help functionsNo need to find manuals to understand how afunction works. The BIOS help function is clear
