    An interdisciplinary field, combiningengineering principles, approaches, andmethodologies with biological, chemical andphysical sciences in order to define andsolve problems in medicine. Students whomajor in Biomedical Engineering at UTSAwill be trained in the fundamentals ofscience and engineering and will beprepared to apply this knowledge ininvestigating fundamental bioengineeringquestions associated with complex livingsystems as well as with the diagnosis andtreatment of human diseases.A broad understanding of sciences and engineering principles isprovided in the first two years of the program; courses inPhysiology, Cell Biology, Engineering Physics, Chemistry, andEngineering Analysis I provide the fundamental training inBiomedical Engineering. During the last two years of the program,students have the option to choose two concentrations as in-depthfocus areas of study.
