Maddie Riewoldt’s Vision was established in June 2015,following the tragic death of Maddie Riewoldt fromAplastic Anaemia, a type of Bone Marrow FailureSyndrome (BMFS). The Riewoldt Family establishedMaddie’s Vision with the primary aim of finding a curethrough medical research. Maddie bravely fought AplasticAnaemia for 5 years. During this time, the familydiscovered how little there was known about the cause ofthis life-threatening illness and that there were very fewtreatment options available. Current therapies are often notwell tolerated by patients and families face options that arevery disruptive to daily life. Over 50% of the 160 youngAustralians diagnosed each year will not survive. To achieve better outcomes, and to ultimately find a curefor BMFS, Maddie’s Vision appointed a highly reputable Scientific Advisory Committee to develop a NationalResearch Strategy. The collective aim, via a competitiveand transparent granting round, is to award funding toresearch projects and people who will discover theimportant breakthroughs required in this area of medicine.Projects are in partnership with national medical researchinstitutes, hospitals and universities across Australia.

THE CAUSE

Maddie’s Vision continues to make amazing inroads.Together with government funds, major events, sponsorships and ongoing support from people such asyourselves, over $10 million dollars in committed funds hasbeen raised since inception in June 2015. Bone Marrow Failure is a rare disease and there is still somuch to discover. The work of Maddie’s Vision is vital, andthe foundations for our medical research program havebeen laid. In some ways, the real work is only justbeginning. Funds raised by all #RideforMaddie participants andsponsors will support the First National AplasticAnaemia/Bone Marrow Failure Syndromes (BMFS) BiobankProject which will be proudly supported by MaddieRiewoldt’s Vision. The aim is to establish a world-class,  Australian biobank of samples for Bone Marrow FailureSyndromes as a critical enabling resource to promote andenhance new national and international research towards acure.
