Schools using SSP (as parts of the BRICKS Initiative) are FULLY dyslexia friendly. Every child is taught as if they have a dyslexic brain, as this is effective for ALL brains. Dyslexia is not seen as a disability, but a strength. Brains are wired for reading and spelling using a PREVENTATIVE approach.��Do not push for labels - push for more effective teaching strategies.�If you need to use a label, identify ‘teaching disabilities’ and start there.��Miss Emma�BEd Hons. Recommendation 2 of the National Inquiry into the Teaching of Literacy� (NITL, 2005) states: ‘The Committee recommends that teachers provide systematic, direct and explicit phonics instruction so that children master the essential alphabetic code-breaking skills required for foundational reading proficiency. �Equally, that teachers provide an integrated approach to reading that supports the development of oral language, vocabulary, grammar, reading fluency, comprehension and the literacy’s of new technologies.’
