Lightridge Attendance Zone Change Process Begins This
Month
On 19 February 2019, the School Board will begin our work on adjusting school boundaries for
the Dulles South Middle and High School attendance zones. The Freedom and Champe clusters
will both be affected by this change, which will likely return Mercer back to being a standard
middle school (6th-8th grade); Champe back to a four year high school (9th-12th grade), and
transform Willard from an intermediate school to a middle school (6th- 8th grade). The process
is needed to open Lightridge High School in the fall of 2020, will be located west of North Star
Blvd off Braddock Rd. For the full Attendance Zone Process Calendar, please see the below

Chairman/Dulles District Representative Comments: I thank my fellow Loudoun County School Board members for selecting me to a third term as
Chairman of the School Board. We have a lot of exciting and important work to do this year,
building on the successes of our LCPS Teachers, Staff, and Administrators.
This year, with 1500 students enrolled at the Academies of Loudoun (AoL), we are only serving
6% of our high school student population. Also this year, over 3,300 students applied for AoL
admission in the upcoming 2019-2020 school year. Because we struggle to meet the needs of all
of our gifted children, I continue to support the TJ contract between Loudoun County Public
Schools and Fairfax County Public Schools. All of our students must be challenged, and we are
responsible for providing world class opportunities, whether at AoL or TJ, to those for whom
such an option is desirable.
I appreciate the fact that our nine School Board Members continue to display professionalism,
collaboration, and common courtesy: we don’t always agree, but when we disagree, we disagree
respectfully. I am hopeful that all board members will not let the upcoming election cycle
distract them from our vision: empowering all students to make meaningful contributions to the
world.
In my next newsletter, I will address the 2020 Fiscal Year budget. Last night, the Board adopted
our first operating budget in recent history that complied with the fiscal guidance provided by the
Board of Supervisors. We are hopefully that this needs-based budget will be fully funded.
As always, please contact me with your ideas, concerns, or questions. A hyperlink to my email
is available on the front page of each school that serves the Dulles District, and is also in the
“From” line of this email and in my signature block below.
Sincerely,
Jeff Morse
