Auguste Comte : 1839 – father of sociology

sociology is application of

scientific method in the study of

the relationship between the

society & individual.

Herbert Spencer: 1876 ‘Principles of sociology’ which was responsible development in sociological studies

Frederic Leplay: laid stress on scientific & objective study of sociology.

Walter Smith (1917) published for the first time a book with the title introduction to educational sociology

Brookover and Gottlieb in their book sociology of education consider education as process of teaching and learning expected patterns of human conduct

Emile Durkheim: (1922)

He considered education to be

something essentially social

in character, in its origin & its

functions & that as a result

the theory of education relates

more clearly to sociology

than to any other science

George Payne(1928) the father of educational

sociology in his book principle of educational

sociology discussed the effect of education upon

group life and the effect of group life upon

education He also laid emphasis on the study of

all those social things which influence human

beings in their growth and development.

John Dewy

in his book school and

society and democracy and

education laid great

importance on educational

sociology and regarded

education as a social process.
