LOW ENVIRONMENTAL & SOCIAL IMPACT
HIGHLY MOBILE • COST EFFECTIVE
ABOUT US
Energold Drilling (“Energold”) and its subsidiarieshave experience drilling in diverse terrains such as at 5,500m altitude in the Andes, the Amazonjungle and the desert in Yemen. Continents operated in include Africa, Asia, South America,Central America, as well as the Caribbean and theMiddle East. Our clients include both major andjunior mining companies. Programs currently beingdrilled range from early-stage reconnaissancedrilling to resource definition and advanced stage programs. Energold uses highly mobile drillsto provide competitively priced, low environmentalimpact drilling with greatly improved social andcommunity relations.
MOBILITY
Energold can mobilize a drill to any location in the
world in the cargo hold of a conventional aircraft.
The drill is sufficiently compact so that everything,
including rods, can be carried on roads by a five-
ton truck. The drill also has the ability to be trans-
ported inside small fixed wing aircraft, pick-up
trucks, and even dug-out canoes. Where access is
limited, the unit can be transported by local
labourers and/or mules on footpaths. Everything is
hydraulically driven, modularized and easily disas-
sembled, so drill moves can be completed in one
shift or less. The heaviest single component in
each unit weighs between 300 and 400 lbs. Quick
disconnects allow the rig to be taken apart from the
drill position in less than 45 minutes. On helicopter-
supported jobs, the drill’s light weight and small
size significantly reduce the number of flying hours.
The drill can be safely landed and assembled with-
out further assistance from the aircraft, and in case
of inclement weather unsuitable for flying, the drill
can be supported manually and moved by hand.
ENVIRONMENTAL& SOCIAL IMPACT
The drill can be set up in a cleared, level space
of 4m by 4m or less, or on scaffolding, if needed.
Since drill moves can be manually carried out, no
roads need to be constructed. The entire footprint
of pads and impact on roads are extremely limited,
aiding in permitting and subsequent land reclama-
tion. Using local labour provides employment,
which in turn generates a positive response in the
community. The drills are quiet, a critical factor
when drilling night shifts in populated areas. As a
testament to our approach, one of Energold's drill
programs was chosen as a case study by Canada's
E3 Environmental Excellence in Exploration
Initiative. In addition, Energold won the Mining
Magazine award in the category “Exploration –
Capital Equipment” for its Series III rig.
PERFORMANCE
Energold can compete effectively with most
conventional drills in depth capability and with
larger core sizes. Energold operates a fleet of
standard and high altitude drills capable of drilling
BTW to depths of over 800m, NTW core to depths
greater than 550m and HQ core to depths greater
than 150m in most conditions (NTW and BTW core
are drilled with thin wall rods and are slightly larger
than NQ and BQ core). The narrow kerf of the thin
wall system allows for a higher ratio of horsepower
per square centimeter of cutting face, resulting in
improved cutting efficiency, as well as recoveries.
As a worldwide average, we drill between 25m
to 30m per 12-hour shift (depending on ground
conditions). On average, we complete 1,200m to
1,500m per month with one drill.
TECHNICAL
Energold's wireline rigs use smaller multiple
turbo-charged engines to run hydraulic pumps.
The pumps pressurize a reservoir, which provides
hydraulic pressure to run the wireline winch, water
pump, ram and a top head motor. Hydraulic drive
is a more efficient power transfer system that
allows for the modularization of the rig. Being
totally modularized also means repairs can be
effected in the field rather than returning the rig
to a shop. Only the failed or damaged part is
removed and either repaired or replaced. The rigs
have the ability to both survey holes and do core
orientation.
