What is IMF? Is it a file?
No! It’s not a file And we don’t care whether The title’s about a movie Or weather
What is IMF? Is it a folder?
No! It’s not a folder We spent many nights ‘til We found a new way To deliver a title

What is IMF? Less to store, Less to send?
Yes If there’s less that you store Then without too much force You get better use Of your network resource

What is IMF? Anything else?
We made things efficient, we made all things small It’s worth doing well, if you do it at all Humans break workflows, they play little games So, make IMF stable, remove all file names All things in the format, they’ve got an ID Which automates searching and finding you see Your workflows are destined to be in the cloud Where traditional file names should not be allowed IMF’s really for mastering fast IDs are efficient, IDs always last IMF’s future depends on TV Let see how we get there, with the DPP

Quality
So we’re looking for:
Something that can… (This becomes the essence of IMF)
• Eliminate or at least substantially reduce duplication = Lighter
• Preserve Asset Knowledge = Faster
• Preserve Mastering Quality throughout localisation process = Better
• Lighter + Faster + Better = Cheaper
And a great balance between Efficiency and Agility!

KEY POINT
With only one format in the localisation process:
• Everything done at single frame rate
• No loss of quality due to multiple conversions
• IMF designed to use mastering quality codecs
BONUS
Because you have solved these 3 problems, you get these extra benefits
• Saved space
• Easier to manage (manage only 1 copy of master media assets rather than multiple copies of slightly tweaked assets)
• Because of systematic storage of knowledge it’s easy to see consequences of change to media
• Re-purposing of content is straight forward
• Any asset (e.g. Language track) can now be easily re-purposed on any distributed version without any additional subbing or dubbing work

IN SUMMARY
• Identified 3 key problems and have solutions for them
• Now mapping solutions into real IMF implementation
• Needed: • To confirm all edge use cases • Additional tool sets • Working closely with vendors to map this out • Works out implications for Interoperability
• DPP/SMPTE specifications to be published as can help with the Industry side of adoption.
