The WHO, WHAT & WHY...
Downtown Tempe Authority, Inc. (DTA) is the Enhanced Municipal Services District that manages the central business district between Tempe Town Lake, College Avenue, University and Farmer. Our Mission is to positively impact and drive the future of our city’s urban center while serving as a steward of the existing assets and resources. The services provided by the DTA include a) Clean and Safe; b) Parking Management; c) Marketing and Events and d) Advocacy on behalf of our stakeholders.
The district was formed in 1993 and the scope of services has grown exponentially over the past 20+ years. Most recently the district has reinvented itself in an effort to be more inclusive of the entire Downtown Tempe area. Previously known as the “Mill Avenue District,” we are now simply “Downtown Tempe” in an effort to demonstrate our support for businesses and entities that are not located along MillAvenue but add just as much value. While Historic Mill Avenue is ~ and will always be ~ one of the most notable assets within our Downtown, it is not our sole asset.
We a r e t h e r e s u l t o f o u r h a r d w o r k . O u r p a s s i o n f o r w h a t w e d o m a k e s u s p i o n e e r s i n e n h a n c e d m a n a g e m e n t ,
s a f e t y , m a r k e t i n g , a n d p r o m o t i o n a l s e r v i c e s .
Recent years have seen significant growth and development within Downtown Tempe and there are projects currently turning dirt and others in the approval process. The next 10 years will be a dynamic era for our district and we are excited to be stewards of that growth. While there are many new businesses locating in our Downtown, there are also new residential developments opening their doors.Simultaneously the corporate community is expanding their presence in our downtown and finding the location, the amenities and the access to ASU an ideal fit to attract their millennial work force. The most vibrant downtowns have fostered an environment where a resident can enjoy the ease of downtown living and a diverse business community can flourish. That is what we are achieving in Tempe.
But none of it matters without the unique character that Tempe offers. Where else do you find a 20 year old locally owned restaurant blocks away from a LEED certified office tower that houses a Fortune 500 corporation … or a family owned candy store across the street from a national retailer ... a major university, a lake, a mountain, an art center, and a world-class museum all within less than one square mile? Nowhere Else!

Safe-T-Patrol Guides are highly trained and distinctly uniformed personnel that patrol the streets of down-
town Tempe and the Town Lake districts on foot or bicycle. They serve as friendly goodwill ambassadors
by welcoming residents, workers, and visitors and by assisting anyone unfamiliar with the downtown area
by giving directions, answering questions and making recommendations for shopping, dining and attrac-
tions.
Safe-T-Patrol Guides also assist in overall crime prevention and reduction by working closely with the Tem-
pe Police Department to provide a highly visible presence and act as additional “eyes and ears” throughout
downtown Tempe. The use of the Tempe Police Department radio by the lead Safety Guide on each shift
provides communication and prompt response time.
Through daily interaction with the public on the street and with property and business owners Safe-T-Patrol
Guides are able to help deter a myriad of quality of life issues and enhance the sense of security for the
downtown workforce and visitors alike.
All street disturbances are not an emergency, but even low priority issues need to be reported in order for
downtown to be made a priority. When in doubt, call the Safety Patrol. Keep these numbers handy for all of
your staff members.
