The Problem: Explosions Do PropagateCombustible dust explosions occur often in the processing

industry, especially within industrial plants that process powders

because approximately 70% of these powders are combustible.

Past incidents and empirical data clearly reveal dust explosion

propagation in industrial-scale piping is a reality, and the initial

explosion often results in a secondary explosion. The most

devastating dust explosions on record happened when the

initial deflagration propagated and strengthened through

interconnected ducts or pipes, causing widespread damage and

numerous deaths.

The Solution:Explosion Isolation

Explosion isolation devices stop the explosion from

propagating through connecting ducts or pipes.

Many types of explosion barriers exist: chemical vs

mechanical barriers, active vs passive valves.
