Prior To Disaster: Just prior to a disaster, CFSA forms a strategic partnership with local media and nonprofit
organizations to advertise CFSA as a repository of contributions from all across the country. This
partnership also forms a committee of advisors to develop an RFP to disperse after the disaster.
CFSA advertises through various media that it will collect contributions and place critical timely
information on the website of interest to all in the recovery process. CFSA is currently
developing the Community Network that will encompass a wide variety of information from the
community in all 8 counties to aid in the development of strategies for recovery. Nonprofits,
businesses and government agencies are invited to participate. CFSA currently administers a
Disaster Relief Fund to which it seeks ongoing funding to provide support in perpetuity to the
community.
During Disaster: CFSA keeps an active website disaster presence; providing links to vital disaster services;
advertises relief grants in various media; works with community leaders to understand the areas
of need; collaborates with local, state and national funders to leverage funding for recovery;
receives contributions; collects applications for recovery grants and selects recipients. The
Community Network provides a tool through which the community can upload information on
relief work, informs on areas lacking service, and becomes a communication tool for the
community to plan strategic relief efforts.
After Disaster: CFSA provides reports to the community on contributions and grants, showing areas receiving
grants and those that didn’t. CFSA then collaborates with community leaders on long term
recovery issues, setting aside funding for that and leveraging our initiative with local, state and
national funders to receive additional support. The Community Network continues to be the hub
of information on relief work and strategic planning.
Counties: The Community Foundation of South Alabama (CFSA) serves 8 counties of SW
Alabama (Baldwin, Choctaw, Clarke, Conecuh, Escambia, Mobile, Monroe, and Washington).
