DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELSMay 15-24, 2020
THE MUSIC MANNovember 1-10, 2019
Meredith Willson’s six-time Tony Award-winning musical comedy has been entertaining audiences since 1957, and is a family-friendly story to be shared with every generation. Fast-talking traveling salesman, Harold Hill, cons the people of River City, Iowa, into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band that he vows to organize – this, despite the fact that he doesn't know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian, the librarian, who transforms him into a respectable citizen. Full of quirky characters, a barbershop quartet, and a sweeping score that includes Til There Was You, Shipoopi, Lida Rose, and the rousing Seventy-Six Trombones, this musical is an American institution!
In her mansion on Sunset Boulevard, faded silent-screen goddess Norma Desmond lives in a fantasy world. Impoverished screenwriter Joe Gillis – on the run from debt collectors – stumbles into her reclusive domain. Persuaded to work on Norma’s “masterpiece” – a film script that she believes will put her back in front of the cameras – he is seduced by her and her luxurious lifestyle. Joe becomes entrapped in a claustrophobic existence until his love for another woman leads him to try and break free with dramatic consequences. Based on one of the most famous classic films, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Tony Award-winning masterwork of dreams and desire in the land called Hollywood includes a lush, swelling score including With One Look and As If We Never Said Goodbye.
Tony Award-winning The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee has charmed audiences across the country with its effortless wit and humor. Featuring a fast-paced, wildly funny and touching book and a truly fresh and vibrant score, this bee is one unforgettable experience. An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the ’tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming “ding” of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves! At least the losers get a juice box.
A riotous ride, complete with audience participation, Spelling Bee is a delightful den of comedic genius.
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels takes us to the French Riviera for high jinks and hilarity. Sophisticated and suave with a good dash of mischief, this hysterical comedy features a delightfully jazzy score by David Yazbek, and was nominated for a staggering eleven Tony Awards. Lawrence makes his lavish living by talking rich ladies out of their money. Freddy more humbly swindles women by waking their compassion with fabricated stories about his grandmother's failing health. However, this small French town isn't big enough for the two of them. They agree on a settlement: the first one to extract $50,000 from a young female heiress, Christine Colgate, wins, and the other must leave town. A hilarious battle of cons ensues that will keep audiences laughing, humming, and guessing to the end! Don’t miss this uproarious musical comedy.
