It’s a way of thinking!

Required skills/understanding• Equivalency: Various values can be expressed using other values without changing the quantity, example: 1 foot = 12 inches

• Multiplication of several fractions at once

• Unit conversion and understanding, especially Metric quantities

• The Mole (Avogadros number) 6.02 X 1023

This is just a quantity in the same way that a dozen equals 12

What is this? This is mathematical problem solving to determine various values of quantities without changing the actual quantity

Go through the tutorial on the methods

Tutorial

Be certain that you feel comfortable with examples 1-5 on the tutorial

Spend time on number 6 to see if you can understand what is going on… You need to have a clear understanding of this problem before you go on

Now go on and do the mini-quiz at the end of the tutorial… If you understand this, then you get it!

Getting Math Anxiety???

Don’t worry… just ask questions… no one is gunna shoot you

Here’s some moreYou should know that the molar masses listed for each element in the periodic table is the mass of one mole of that stuff… use that info to answer the following:

questions1. How many grams are in .09 moles of

Mg?2. How many moles are there in 256.5

grams of iron?3. How many atoms are in 33.3 moles of

nitrogen4. How many atoms are in 256.8 grams of

lead?Periodic table

Answers1. 2.16 grams Mg2. 4.58 moles iron3. 2.0 X 1025 atoms nitrogen4. 7.5 X 1023 atoms lead
