September is New Generation Month!
Rotary is committed to “Service to Society” through the five
Avenues of Service – Club Service, Vocational Services,
Community Service, International Service, and New
Generations Service, which are the foundation of Clubs
activity. Club Services focuses on strengthening fellowship
and ensuring the effective functioning of a Club. Vocational
Service encourages Rotarians to serve others through their
vocations and to practice high ethical standards.
Community Service covers the projects and activities a Club
undertakes to improve life in their community. International
Service encompasses actions taken to expand Rotary’s
humanitarian reach around the world and promoting world
peace. New Generations, they are the future of society, an
enigma well recognized by the Rotary through the New
Generations Service. It recognizes the positive change
implemented by youth and young adults through leadership
development activities and creating international
understanding.
The month of September is New Generations Month,
focusing on the motivation and activation of the New
Generations in Rotary which is comprised of Interact,
Rotaract, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), and
Rotary Youth Exchange programs. Interact is the service
club for young people ages 12 to 18; Rotaract clubs are for
18 to 30 year olds and are either community or university
based; RYLA is the leadership training program for ages 14
to 30; and Rotary Youth Exchange is an opportunity for
selected students to spend up to one year living with host
families and attending school in a different country.
Rotary Club of Dhaka, as the premier club of the country, is
extremely fortunate to have the oldest and most active
Rotaract clubs; Rotaract Clubs Dhaka, Dhaka Premier and
Udayan in the district. The Club is also active in the Rotary
Youth Exchange programs in the District. Representatives
from all of the programs have been instrumental in comm-
unity service on own and jointly with the club, including
Sleeping Kits program, PolioPlus, Dental Camps, etc. Many
of the members of Rotaract clubs are now responsible
Rotarians for present and future leadership of Rotary.

Profile of Guest Speaker
Dear Rotarian Member,
Please accept my warm greetings on the first day
and first Weekly Meeting day of September, Rotary’s
“New Generations” month. New Generations refers
to the youngest generation in the family of Rotary.
You all are aware that In Rotary’s calendar,
September is the “New Generations” Month.
One of our club’s major committees is the New
Generations Standing Committee chaired by Rtn Abu
Nawaz Bhuiyan PHF. There are two Sub Committees,
Partners in Service committee chaired by Club
Secretary Rtn Barrister Shafayat Ullah PHF and
Career Guidance Committee Chaired by Rtn IPP
Shaheed Siddique PHF. All Rotarian Chairs are
requested to hold committee meetings and
implement the plans. We have the target of forming
one Rotaract Club, one Interact Club and one Early
Act Club. I am hopeful formations of all three new
clubs are under processing. We Have Three Rotaract
Clubs, Rotaract Club of Dhaka, Dhaka Premier and
Dhaka Udayan. Our Partners in Service Committee
Chair Rtn Shafayat had meeting with the clubs. We
have engaged the Rotaractors in various club
projects like previous years. I would like to request
Committee Chair Rtn IPP Shaheed Siddique PHF to
take some initiatives on Career guidance of the
Rotaractors.
It is the responsibility of each Rotarian to prepare
the New Generations —all young people up to the
age of 30 —by improving their life skills to ensure a
better future, while recognizing the diversity of their
needs. Our Club encouraged to undertake projects
that support the fundamental needs of the New
Generations: health, human values, education, and
self-development. Rotary International’s Structured
Programs for New Generations are: Early Act,
Interact, Rotaract, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards,
and Youth Exchange. We are almost in line of these
activities. This year we shall also sponsor Rotaractors
to RYLA – Rotary Youth Leadership Awards. As
Rotaractors and Interactors, they serve in
communities at home and abroad. Through Rotary
Youth Exchange, they explore new cultures. And as
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards participants, they
learn skills that will help them succeed as future
community leaders. We have the examples in our
Club where a number of ex-Rotaractors are the
proud member of our club and they are maintaining
important leadership roles in the club and District.
Dear members, we have to accomplish number of
challenges to meet the RI Presidential Citations.
Without your proactive involvements it is not
possible to attain. We are representing the oldest
club of long heritage. Please attend the Weekly Club
Meetings.
In this connection we want to see the implemented
suggestions of the Attendance Committee Chair Rtn
Mamun Akbar PHF on how to improve weekly
attendance is working well. In this month we shall
have a joint meeting with all the Rotaractors of three
clubs. Let us celebrate the New Generations month.
As the month will have five Weekly meetings, we
shall have a family get together and Eid-Reunion
Program hopefully on 29th
September, 2015.
Dear members please come forward from your
heart, attend weekly meetings and induce each
other club members to attend the meetings. Please
bring new members.
My Dear Rotarian Members, Please Pay your Semi-
annual Dues.
Thank you all.
Yours in Rotary,
Rtn Nasim Majumder PHF,
President, Rotary Club of Dhaka.
Quotable Quotes:
“Untold blessing have come…..with the conquering of disease and the lengthening of life, but
have we stopped to consider the wonderful growth of understanding…..the expanding
kindliness and goodness in our social relationship? These have come with a very natural desire
to enjoy a higher and higher plane of civilization”
– I B Tom Sutton, RI President (1928-29), 1929 RI Convention, Dallas, Texas, USA
Rotary's first fiscal year began the day after the first
convention ended. The convention of the Rotary
Clubs of America was held in Rotary’s birthplace,
Chicago, in 1910.
Ever wonder why the Rotary year begins 1 July? The
international convention initially played a key role in
determining the start date of our fiscal and
administrative year.
Rotary's first fiscal year began the day after the first
convention ended, on 18 August 1910. The 1911-12
fiscal year also related to the convention, beginning
with the first day of the 1911 convention on 21
August.
At its August 1912 meeting, the Board of Directors
ordered an audit of the International Association of
Rotary Clubs' finances. The auditors recommended
that the organization end its fiscal year on 30 June to
give the secretary and treasurer time to prepare a
financial statement for the convention and board,
and determine the proper number of club delegates
to the convention.
The executive committee concurred, and at its April
1913 meeting, designated 30 June as the end

of the fiscal year. This also allowed for changes to
the schedule for reporting club membership and
payments. Even The Rotarian changed its volume
numbering system to correspond to the fiscal year
(beginning with vol. 5, July 1914).
Rotary continued to hold its annual conventions in
July or August until 1917. Delegates to the 1916
event in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, approved a resolution
to hold future conventions in June, mainly because
of the heat in cities where most of them occurred.
The next one was held 17-21 June in Atlanta,
Georgia.
The term "Rotary year" has been used to signify
Rotary's annual administrative period since at least
1913. An article in The Rotarian that July noted, "The
Rotary year that is rapidly drawing to a close has
been signalized by several highly successful joint
meetings of Clubs that are so situated as to assemble
together easily and conveniently."
Since the executive committee's decision in 1913,
the end of the Rotary year has remained 30 June.
