How can we measure development?

There are many ways to measure development. The most common are:

GDP (Gross Domestic Product) – The total value of all finished goods and services produced by a country in a year.

GNP (Gross National Product) - The total value of all finished goods and services produced by a country in a year plus all net income that the country has earned overseas. Expressed in $.

BUT – this is only an economic indicator...

Statistic used to rank countries in order of development.

• HDI takes into account, GDP, life expectancy , adult literacy, enrolment in education at all levels.

• A measure of 1.0 developed.• Under 0.5 low levels of development.
