Chapter 1 : Project Brief
1. Project Corridor
The project stretch falls between PWD Chainage Km 144+400 and Km 249+000 ofNational Highway NH-9 between Pune and Solapur. The alignment is mainly in rollingterrain containing a good number of combinations of vertical and horizontal curves. Theprofile of the carriageway is close to the natural ground profile. This reduced the number ofembankment and cut section but there exist a few small stretches of embankment withinsufficient shoulder widths and unprotected side slopes.
Along project stretch there are many industrial sites. One special feature of this stretch isindustry based Solapur MIDC and a number of sugar factories as this is one of the highestsugar producing belts. Along the project section there are three major towns namelyTembhurni, Modnimb and Mohol. 6 major junctions affect considerably the main line trafficand its flow characteristics.
As per Concession Agreement, Concessionaire (PSRDCL) has to construct, operate andmaintain the Project (the ‘Concession”) for a period of 20years and also agrees toimplement the project subject to and in accordance with the terms and conditions set forthin the agreement.
