Timeline of the development of Kota
Kota is an old town with prehistoric town was situated inside the fort as shown in the figure 1. By the year 1970, the city has became regional
headquarter serving nearby districts. Starting of direct rail link with major cities and starting of thermal power station has completely transformed
the city. People started to move further away from the river side and population started to surge. This all can be seen in figure 2. In the figure 3,
current state of the city has been shown. Industrial areas are now highly developed, city has been further stretched and green cover has been
completely vanished.

Since I could not find the proper maps, I have combined historical information with my common sense to create the map of the city. The
information presented here might not be accurate but it will at least give you some hint fulfilling the true purpose of this assignment.
Pictures of the town from historic, middle and current time

City mall
Kota barrage

Jag Mandir, was built just outside the fort boundaries on the Kishore Sagar Lake to
serve as a leisure place for kings in summer time. After the construction of Kota Barrage
dam, a canal now passes through the lake. This is one of the best places of the city and I
often call this place, ‘marine drive’ ☺. Walking around this gives a feeling of walking
on the sea beach.
.
Kota barrage & Thermal Power Station, was built in 1960’s to fulfill the
growing demand of power & irrigation of the region. This has completely
changed the landscape of the city. Because of the dense population on the
western side of the river, it was built on the eastern side. With abundance
of power & water, many industries have set up their plants in and around
Kota.

Kota city mall is not so old. It reflects the increasing buying
capacity of the people as well as catching up with the trends of
other megacities. With healthy young population and stretching
of city, there was a need to have a common entertainment and
shopping place. City mall has fulfilled this need of new Kota
residents. So far this is only mall in the city.
