PERSONAL EXPERIENCEDESIGN & BUILD PROGRAM, Guiyang Yelang Valley, ChinaJune 2016--July 2016
Position: Designer & construction workerCollaborated with local Chinese students and faculties, we conducted the field survey and designed a community gathering area of Yelang Valley for one week. We spent three weeks building the amenities and completing the construction of our plan with the use of local and natural materials.
DESIGN & BUILD PROGRAM, Denny Building Courtyard, Seattle, WAApril 2019--June 2019 Position: Designer & construction workerThe streetscape project aimed to design a courtyard facing Denny Building and 2200 6th Ave, with a functioning rain garden for those who worked in Denny Building. We spent one month on schematic design and making a full set of construction documents; then we started the construction and planting in the following two months.
VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE, Refugee School in Rabat, MoroccoAugust 2016
Position: Volunteer teacherVolunteered as a teacher in a refugee camp school in Morocco, I taught mathematics, Chi-nese, and English in a class with refugee children at the age from 4-16 years old. I taught students basic knowledges, but this volunteer experience taught me how people struggle agaisnt their circumstances in different cultures, and influenced my design thinking on how do culture and people shape the place?
DIGITAL MEDIA, Filming Freeway Park, Seattle, WAJune 2018--August 2018
Position: ParticipantThis program focused on the possibilities of filmmaking as an effective tool to analysize, explore design opportunities and represent landscape, allowing me to see landscape in a very different perspective. I shot and edited a video of 10 minutes which was played to the public in the Freeway Park (Seattle, US) on September 28th, 2018.
CULTURE PRORGAM, Maynard Alley, Chinatown, SeattleSept 2018--Dec 2018
Position: DesignerIn response to the local community’s eagerness for transforming the historic Maynard Al-ley into an attratctive urban space, I worked with the tenants association to redevelop the site while maintaining cultural, artistic and unique sense of community and circulation.

HAVE A CENTRAL AREA FOR TRASH DUMPINGRather than having more public trash bins on the
street, it’s better to have a central place for trash dumping and do a fixed time garbage pick-up.
ADDING ELEMENTS TO THE ALLEYDesign interventions involve of three basic
design elements: Culture, Functions and Art to solve the issues in the site.

VALUES OF WALL
Maynard Alley
The canopy could be folded as storyboard panels and photo wall. Maynard alley is just like a history walking gallery, presenting people the history and culture of Maynard Alley and CID.
For recreational use, a stage could also be folded down. The stage can be an extension of dancing club Massive Monkee. The stage can hold seasonal events such as music event, movie night and so on.

PLAZASmall plaza area provides seating with screen and trellis behind, offering an outside lunch area for staffs who work in Denny Building to relax and encouraging people who walked by to pause for a while.
RAIN GARDENA rain garden with careful designated plants replaced the former abandoned fountain. Interpretive signages tell the story of what’s happening on site and explains the role of this rain garden would play in the urban street. The rain garden not only has ecological functions but also has seatings along the edge with views toward street and landscapes.
STONE CASTLEWe applied stones and bricks to the castle in the light of local condition. The stone castle resembled the historic fortress that was pre-existing in Yelang Valley. It was designed to offer a high platform for people to overlook the beautiful scenery of Yelang Valley.

U-VILLAGE PLANTING DESIGN DEVELOPING A PLANTING PLAN FOR U-VILLAGE

1 2 3A “simple, but beautiful” cubic concrete box
A circular wooden clock A base made by carbon steel that would hold the woodenclock
Three objects with different materials combine together
4Running the water through the waterwheel
HAND DRAFT OF DIMENSION
We made 2 wheels compose of wood board connected by a metal handle. Also, we created a concrete container and a wood box outside the concrete container,
We used 3D printing to get eight buckets which would add to the inside rims. Assemble everything and put some small stones in the concrete container just for decoration.
We cut the steel pieces, weld them together and all the steel pieces were connected safely for assembling.

Our group tried to create a traditional Asian agricultural equipment: the water wheel, which could be used manually for irrigation, or for a potential generation of electricity.
