Positivity Initiatives
1. DESCRIPTION
Hope Street Group, a national non-partisan, non-profit organization, established the Hawaii State Teacher Fellows Program in 2014. Since that time, the program (which is led locally) has resourced more than 60 of the Department of Education's outstanding teachers in understanding how to work with their peers and decisionmakers to appropriately influence actions at the state, complex area and school levels.
2. PRESENTATION
Kelly Miyamura, Director of the Hawaii State Teacher Fellows Program, Esther Paik, teacher from Daniel K. Inouye Elementary school and Kristen Brummel, Resource Teacher from the Kaimuki-McKinley-Roosevelt Complex Area, will deliver a presentation describing the program, highlighting its teacher leadership and collaboration initiatives.

"Becoming empowered through the group {the fact of a true, passionate "fellow"ship among accomplished teacher leaders) allowed me to see myself from a new perspective and feel emboldened to pursue the professional development, school/district improvement initiatives, and an educational agenda that is central to my identity as an educator." Erin Medeiros, Kauai High School
"The most impactful part of the fellowship experience for me has been collaborating with incredible teachers who are passionate about leading from within. HSG has given me an opportunity not only to share ideas with other teacher leaders about how I think teaching and learning should look, but also has provided me with training, resources, and confidence to take action to make the change a reali ty. HSG has really pushed me to step outside my classroom and my comfort level to elevate the teaching profession from within. Lory Peroff, Waikiki Elementary
