Established 1994

Delta Tau Lambda Sorority, Inc.

HerstoryOn April 2, 1994, two women came together to create an organization that fit their needs as Latinas at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor campus. The women discussed their ideas and goals for such an organization. It was on that day that DELTA TAU LAMBDA SORORITY was founded.

Delta Tau Lambda has been recognized as a strong organization. It has been the hard work, pride and dedication of its members that has helped bring about excellence to university campuses, and the Latino community.

Delta Tau Lambda is a community-oriented sorority. Our main objectives are academic

excellence and community service. We strive to bring about change in the Latino community as well as in other communities of color. A great

deal of our work involves the youth, for we believe that they are our future and we their role models. We believe that through our hard work,

we will empower others to achieve for themselves and lead one another to greatness.

Purpose

Goals Community Service

Promote higher learning in Latino Youth

Convey in younger women, through our wisdom, to reach for their dreams using education as their tool.

Promote unity in the Latino community, to support each other, identify common problems and define collective solutions.

Expand our cultural horizons by working with other communities of color.

Lydia Cruz and Sandra Maria Ramos Scholarship

The Lydia Cruz & Sandra Maria Ramos Scholarship was established in March of 1995. The two women chosen to name

this scholarship have greatly influenced the lives of the Delta Tau Lambda Founding Mothers, Darilís García-McMillian's

grandmother and Maria Victoria Ramos' sister.

The scholarship is awarded annually to a graduating high school Latina student or a first-year college student, attending a 2 or 4

year institution of higher learning.

“Salute to Latinas: Fuerza De La Mujer” honors the accomplishments and

strengths of all Latinas. We celebrate our history,

cultures, and diversity with pride. We recognize

women, university staff, students and alumni who have made an impact at a university and/or in their community. Our Salute to

Latinas is a journey through our past, our

present, as well as our hopes and dreams for the

future.
