DeForest Standard Method

Panels halfway submerged in solution with corrosion inhibitor, in sealed glass jars

Top half of panels are in the vapor phase

Tested in solutions of standard hard water (100ppm as CaCO3 & 71ppm as chlorides),

unless otherwise noted

Corrosion inhibitors tested at varying concentrations (by weight)

Standard Metals

Aluminum Panels: Bare Aluminum, #2024

Steel Panels: Cold Rolled Steel (Mild), SAE 210

Copper Panels: #110 Copper (99.95% Cu)

Brass Panels: #260 Brass Alloy (30% Zn / 70% Cu)

Corrosion Testing: Flash Rust Protection at pH ~3 to ~5.5

Procedure: Cold rolled steel panels were placed into each solution and allowed to soak for ~1 hour at room

temperature. The steel panels were removed and allowed to air dry without rinsing.

No rust forms on the panels if DeCORE AFCI-45 present.

DeCORE AFCI-45 @ 1% by weight (0.45% active)

SAE 110 Cold Rolled Steel

First Beaker: Acidified tap water

(pH 7.01) with a few drops of a

10% citric acid solution to finalpH 5.35

Second Beaker: 1% by weight

DeCORE AFCI-45 added to acidified tap water to final pH 5.39

Third Beaker: Acidified distilled

water (pH 5.53) with a few drops of

a 10% citric acid solution to final pH 3.45
