Understand thy user

Defining the UX research study

1. Identify a problem area

What problem area are you passionate about ?What problem area is the client interested in?What problem area do you have resources for?

What problem area is really a problem?

Exercise: List problem areas then select one

2. Explore questions about the problem area

Exercise: affinity diagramming

Examples

How do I know which meal is served today?How long do I queue for?

Can I have my lunch delivered to my office?How much is lunch of the day today?

3. Choose which questions to solve

4. Broadly speaking, who is the user?

Exercise:

List all possible users and then select the ones you will focus on

Selection Questions:What user do you have easy access to?

Who is the most neglected user?

5. Create a Hunt statement

“ To investigate how new Nairobi University students at Chiromo

campus search, decide on and pay for food items”

6. Conduct user research
