The 57 Bus, Dear Martin, &
The Hate U Give
Dear Educator, Librarian, Parent, Friend,
This file of PBAs and extras is meant to accompany the plan for the three books
listed at the top of the page. In the pages that follow you will find many options
including:
- a menu in which students choose three activities to complete related to the text
- a menu in which students choose two activities to complete related to the text
(one individually and one with a partner or small group)
- a creative challenge for the entire class
- a series of Venn diagrams
- bookmarks ready to be colored
For the creative challenge, I have formatted it two ways. The first is meant to be
given to the entire classroom. The second is meant to be given to every student. (I
prefer the first way). I also recommend having pencils, markers, crayons, magazines,
scissors, glue, and whatever other media you can acquire to support their poetry.
Many students will appreciate being able to add to their words with imagery of their
choosing. This is also a perfect opportunity to showcase handwriting if you give
them one period for the writing of the poems and another for publishers quality.
Time constraints can make for exciting outcomes!
Enjoy and please contact me with feedback or questions at:

Your task, as an entire group, is to create acrostic poetry centered on the characters and

to you! Decide, together, who will work together to write acrostic poems for each of the words
or phrases below. You have until the end of the class period to complete all of your poems. If
you assisted in authoring a poem, claim that poem! The last two are intentionally blank for you
to decide on two additional words or phrases.
