ABOUT Kyle

Kyle Onaga is a Southern California Native. Born and raised in Los Angeles, he has taken many opportunities to

cultivate his interests in art and architecture. He has a Master’s degree in Architecture from the Architectural Association(AA) in

Architecture and Urbanism - DRL. The course was in design research under Patrik Schumacher and focused on Kinetics and

Semiotics in Architecture. Prior to that, he received a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from the Southern California Institute of

Architecture(SCI-arc); where he did my thesis under Florencia Pita with Jeff Kipnis and Dora Epstein-Jones as cultural advisors.

KylewasawardedanacademicscholarshipbytheArchitecturalAssociationtostudyhisMArchdegree.Duringhisfive-year

education at SCI-arc, Kyle was sequentially awarded the SCI-arc Continuing Student Scholarship and his work was continually

chosen to represent SCI-arc in the annual Spring Show. Kyle’s thesis project, Turning Head: The Pictorial Figure was showcased in

the Undergraduate Thesis Exhibition and published on various online journals.

Professionally, after completing his undergraduate thesis research, Kyle worked for his advisor Florencia Pita and

partnerJackiBloomatPita+Bloom.Hewasadesignerandhisresponsibilitiesincluded3Dmodelingandvisualizationforvarious

competitionsincludingTaichungCulturalCityCenter,AlessidesignproposalsandtheirPS1MOMAproposal.Kylehasalsogained

working experience at MAD Architects in Beijing, China where he had a range of responsibilities on various projects at multiple

scales including; a master plan scheme for Malaysia Forest City and Moscow IFC Competition; an urban planning proposal for

NanjingZendaiHimalayasCentre;789ArtMuseum,and8600Wilshire.Kylegainedadditionalinternationalexperienceworking

for LAVA Architects in Sydney, Australia where he collaborated on Hainan Ocean Flower Resort, Jinan District City, and Hainan

Commercial Centre.

Throughout Kyle’s career, he has been in pursuit of formal architectural solutions and material manipulations to produce

pictorialqualitiesbothindigitalandphysicalmodels.Kyleemployshisskillsetofadvanced3D-modelinginMayaandRhinoto

produce enriched architectural proposals as well as captivating visualisations. More importantly, Kyle is tenacious and dedicated to

the progression of ideas and in developing as an architect.
