The religion in Crete was Matriarchal which means it was all female. All the goddesses were female and most of the priests were female. We don’t much know about their religion because there are no books, scripts, or any writings still intact. The only reason we know about their religion is because of the relics and paintings left behind.

RELIGION

However, we do know that the people of Crete worshiped symbols. Examples of these symbols include a crescent axe, the bull and snake.

THE STORY

BECOMING MORE SPIRITUAL

They would have religious celebrations and rituals in caves, and on top of mountains in sanctuaries. Here they would dance, and pray, and sacrifice animals, and some even believe humans for a female nature goddess that they worshipped. They would do this to become more spiritual.

WORSHIP

Minoan worship was led by a priest. The highest priest was usually a member of the royal family, and would dress in very formal clothing made with animal skin.

Some prayer poses was standing straight with their fists on their foreheads or chests, or with their arms held high, extended to the side or folded.
