AND ROMULUS

Author

Virgil Is traditionally ranked as one of Rome's greatest

poets. His Aeneid has been considered the national epic of

ancient Rome from the time of its composition to the present day.

Virgil's work has had wide and deep influence on Western literature, most notably Dante's Divine Comedy, in which Virgil appears as Dante's guide through hell and purgatory.

The myth of Aeneas, Greek in origin, had to be reconciled with the Italian myth of Romulus and Remus, who, taken as historical figures, would have been born around 771 BC.

Brief Summary

Romulus and Remus were twin brothers who were rescued by a she-wolf after being abandoned on the banks of the Tiber River on the orders of a wicked king, Amulius. Years later, Romulus killed his brother Remus during an argument, and went on to found the city of Rome.
